Have a guess!
I recently shared this amazing set of statistics in our Annual General Meeting, so I am sharing so you can be equally amazed. We have 8 fantastic Scout Groups across the District in the town centre of Warwick and across the villages of Hampton Magna, Barford, Wellesbourne and Kineton. Our amazing leaders offer a range of activities to young people aged from 4 to 18 supporting the Scouting Method.
- enjoy what they are doing and have fun
- take part in activities indoors and outdoors
- learn by doing
- share in spiritual reflection
- take responsibility and make choices
- undertake new and challenging activities
- make and live by their Promise
Nights Away or residential events, such as camping or sleepovers, are a key part of Scouts and our team work hard to ensure that every Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer and Young Leader has the opportunity to take part.
So how did we do in 2023?
In total our teams went on 55 seperate experiences! Our leaders showed lots of imagination in terms of where to go for that ideal overnight location. By blending a mix capability stretching adventure for the older age-groups with nearer to reach locations the Groups are able to cater to everyone’s needs.
Here is the list of where we visited in in 2023.

Firstly to point out, do you see Squirrels did Night’s Away? Warwick was not only the first District in Warwickshire to have Squirrels since they got started in 2021, but we can now proudly proclaim we are the first District to provide an overnight experience for the youngest section in the Scouting family. Apparently all involved had a fantastic time including the leaders and there are more plans being made for next year.
Our Scout age group do especially well because a number of Groups offer week-long residential experiences during the Summer, mostly under canvas in some truly away from it locations. This allows the young person to challenge their growing confidence and take on a range of activities not otherwise available in their weekly Scouts session.
Special thank you’s are owed and gratefully given to all our Scouting Adults, without whom the magic simply cannot happen. To ensure the young people are appropriately staffed for every activity our DBS’d team of Leaders, Assistants and Parent Helpers gave between them 1374 days and nights in 2023 to delivering these experiences. That is not even counting the time spent in event planning, preparing equipment, reconnaissance missions or food shopping. In monetary terms that is equivalent to £0.5M of time donated to the Scouting Movement. A huge THANK YOU!
